Brass Bonanza
A two week seminar dedicated to all things brass. Students will work daily with CSPA brass faculty in a morning fundamentals class followed by small group classes focusing on areas of development for varying ability levels, including practice techniques, solo repertoire, excerpts, and audition techniques. Each day will conclude with a presentation by a guest artist, including some of the most notable names in the world of brass performance and pedagogy. Registration is open too all students with at least two years of playing experience or have graduated 6th grade. Adult students are welcome and encouraged to participate. All group classes and private lessons will take place online via Zoom, which requires a strong internet connection and computer/tablet.

Colburn Summer Performing Arts Camp

Mon, July 27 - Fri, July 31, 2020

Monday – Friday, 9:15 am – 11:45 AM

Explore some of the classes that the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts has to offer with an experience that will allow your child to perform and discover their performing arts talents. A typical morning at the online camp will begin with dramatic exercises in comedy and improv with our Drama Director Ms. Debbie Devine and instructor Ms. Hailey Jones. Students will use their imagination to inspire story in this world of unscripted spontaneous acting. The emphasis is on the spirit of ensemble as we discover our individual and group creativity. Morning activities will also include a musicianship class with Ms. Keren Schweitzer. The morning experience, entitled Morning Dreamscape is priced at $350.00

Students can further extend their experience into the afternoon with one-on-one private lessons in one of the following electives: Guitar, Piano, Tap, or Percussion. Private Lessons will take place Monday - Thursday for 30 min each day online which will require a strong internet connection and computer/tablet. This experience is priced at $550. 

Students can further extend their experience with two electives, choosing a second discipline. Keep in mind, an instrument at home is required such as a piano/keyboard for piano  and a drum pad and drums sticks for percussion. Lessons will take place Monday - Thursday for 30 min each day x each discipline. This experience is priced at $750.

On Friday, a culminating group activity will take place online at 12:00 pm. Comedy, trust, joy, and memories will be embedded in our online adventure.

College Audition Prep for Singers
Designed for college-aspiring high school singers, this class provides the knowledge, strategies, and technical skills needed to craft a first-rate college music audition. This four week workshop will meet weekly on Saturdays for a group session online via Zoom. Each student will also receive an online private lesson with Colburn faculty Mr. Michael Chipman each week for an hour. Students will participate in a mock audition and receive written feedback to prepare them for future auditions. The class will provide the information and technical knowledge to construct a successful college audition and set students apart from the competition.

Intro to Music Production with Logic Pro X
This course is designed for students who have some experience composing or recording their own musical performances and want to obtain a more professional sound. The class focuses on the basics of Logic Pro X, recording engineering and mixing. Students interested in ALL genres of music will gain knowledge in producing better sounding mixes and gaining skills for faster project completion. Requirements: Students should have strong  internet connection, video camera, headphones in order to participate in the online Zoom classroom experience. Apple Logic Pro X software (90 day free trial available on Apple.com) and an Apple mac computer are required.  Students should have some background in composing or music recording. Class will meet online 3 days a week for 2 weeks with instructor Mr. Brian Langsbard.

Piano Camp Intensive

Student must have been pre-approved to enroll.

Ages 9-14:The mission of the camp is to provide serious young pianists with a diverse and comprehensive immersion in the arts in a nurturing and social environment. The camp will allow students to have structured time dedicated to music for two weeks. Each student will receive two 45 minute private piano lessons with esteemed Colburn faculty as well as participation in a weekly performance class. Activities will include daily practice, masterclasses, musicianship, and drama to support students in their personal musical development. Attendees are expected to participate for the full two weeks and are required to have access to the internet, a tablet/laptop, and a piano at home.

Summer Percussion Workshop
Percussion Workshop is a five day online seminar designed for intermediate students grades 6-8 (11am-2pm session) and intermediate/advanced students grade 9-12 (1pm-4pm session). Students will work closely with Colburn faculty Mr. Ken McGrath in ensemble exercises, and participate in lectures provided by renowned guest artists covering a wide variety of topics such as effective practice techniques and audition preparation.  Students are required to have access to the following minimum equipment:practice drum pad, drumsticks, metronome (digital phone app is acceptable), and a stable internet connection in order to participate online via Zoom. A personal drumset or marimba is optional. Guest artists include Christina Cheon, Pete Korpela, and Mike Packer.

Violin and Viola Virtual Boot Camp

Join CSPA Faculty Aimée Kreston, Andrew Picken, Sam Fischer, and Tina Qu for a fun-filled “boot camp” for violin and viola students!  Open to intermediate and advanced students, camp will have two hours a day of supervised practice with daily “micro lessons," music history classes with Dr. Kristi Brown-Montesano, in depth study of Mozart string quartets and chamber music “best practices” with Tina Qu, daily studio classes, and a final gala recital!  Masterclasses by renowned pedagogues Dr. Lina Bahn, USC, and Ayano Ninomiya, NEC, will be held (participation is based on audition and for an extra fee.) Renowned former CSPA students Geneva Lewis (BM, NEC), Benjamin Penzner (BM, University of Michigan), and Hao Zhou, (BM, Colburn Conservatory) and Sydney Mariano (MM, Royal Conservatory of London) will each spend a day with students, working individually and in small groups on everything from practice techniques to college audition preparation.
