Beethoven and the Ninth Symphony
Join Conservatory of Music's Chair of Music History and Literature Kristi Brown-Montesano for an exploration of Beethoven’s creative and personal journey to his final symphony, a work that has sustained musical, cultural and political significance for nearly 200 years. This 4-week course will focus on the genesis and premiere of the Ninth Symphony, including the historical context, musical antecedents, the inventiveness of the composer’s late style, and the choice of Schiller’s “Ode to Joy” for the final choral movement. Classes will be held online.

College Audition Prep for Singers
Designed for college-aspiring high school singers, this class provides the knowledge, strategies, and technical skills needed to craft a first-rate college music audition. This 6 week workshop will meet weekly on Saturdays for a group session online via Zoom. Students will participate in a mock audition and receive written feedback to prepare them for future auditions. The class will provide the information and technical knowledge to construct a successful college audition and set students apart from the competition.

Intermediate Music Production with Logic Pro X
In this continuation from the beginner course. Students will cover additional aspects of Logic including, using 3rd party plugins and instruments, editing key-commands, dynamic plugins, freezing tracks, pitch-correction, flex-time, using the loop browser, importing video and basic scoring to picture, workflow improvements, general tips and more.

Requirements: Students should have strong  internet connection, video camera, headphones in order to participate in the online Zoom classroom experience. Apple Logic Pro X software (90 day free trial available on Apple.com) and an Apple mac computer are required.  Students should have some background in composing or music recording.

Introduction to Composition

Designed for beginning composers to develop the skills and methodologies to pursue writing music. The course will commence with short composition assignments and build up to include opportunities to compose short pieces for solo and small chamber ensemble. Students will be exposed to different composers' aesthetics and approaches as a means of expanding their own compositional toolboxes. Classes will include presentations, masterclass-like discussions of student projects, and guest composers and/or performers.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate Theory I or instructor's approval required prior to enrollment.

Introduction to Orchestral Conducting

Introduction to Solo Singing
For ages 10-12. If you are considering private vocal study, but are unsure if you are ready, this is the class for you!  A group voice class that will enable students to learn how to safely strengthen the voice and extend its range. Learn how to use your own vocal registers, and begin to understand style and its importance when both performing and listening. Students will learn 4-6 songs together as a group, but present them as soloists. The class will include instruction in basic theory and notation, sight-singing, basic vocal technique, that will prepare students for private lessons as they reach the appropriate age for applied instruction. This class will be taught online and requires a stable internet connection and reliable laptop or tablet. A USB microphone is highly recommended.
